Ribera del Duero wines
Some of the best Spanish wines come from this region, yet it is still relatively unknown to the UK and US markets, who still seem to associate all Spanish wine with Rioja.
Tempranillo is the main grape, although it is called Tinto del Pais in this region. The wines tend to be more refined than Rioja’s (at least in our opinion) and the region is benefiting from the knowledge of wine makers from all over the world and especially the New World, who are making their homes in Ribera del Duero.
Spain’s most expensive wine, ‘Unico’ from Vega Sicilia, comes from Ribera del Duero.
2004 was a very good year for wines from Ribera del Duero. You can read more about Spanish wine vintages here.
