Every month, Pocket Vintages scours the UK wine merchants for good quality and good value wines*. We choose one red wine, one white wine and occasionally a champagne and a rose wine recommendation.

January 2008 wine recommendations
Feeling a bit blue? January can often be a depressing month after the previous few weeks festivities but don't fret, a glass of wine can make the world seem a little better and these winter treats will perk you up and not cost you the earth.
This month's wine recommendations come from Laithwaites Wines:
Red wine recommendation
This Australian Shiraz is excellent value at just over £5 a bottle and is a big, juicy and spicey Shiraz that warms the guts and ensures easy glugging.
The Red Sedan is from the famous McLaran Vale vineyard and deserves extra kudos for the fun label on the bottle!

White wine recommendation
Monte Leon Sauvignon Blanc 2007
This is a good value classic Sauvignon Blanc from Chile, showing the usual charateristics of gooseberry and citrus fruits and is a lip smacking fiver a bottle when you buy online.
